All three and four-year-olds in the UK are entitled to some free early education or childcare. Some younger children are also eligible.
The number of free weekly childcare hours (in term time) you’ll get usually depends on your child’s age, how much you earn from paid work and where you live.
England – up to 30 free hours
In England, you might qualify for:
- 30 hours for working parents if your child is nine months old or older
- 15 hours entitlement for families of two-year-olds receiving additional support
- 15 hours entitlement for all three and four-year-olds
- the additional 15 hours entitlement for working parents of three and four-year-olds.
If you take the hours across the whole year, and not just term times, you will get fewer hours each week.
